The H Street Community Development Corporation continues its long tradition–22 years running–of providing a paid program to local high school students. This year’s program, entitled “The China Challenge III: Preparing DC Youth for careers in the Global Economy,” provides a 7-week paid learning experience to qualified students. Students will work 25 hours a week for $7.25/hour at the H Street CDC Training Center in NE. Rather than performing make-work, as in many summer jobs, students will be preparing themselves to compete in a diverse world marketplace where China is a major player.
Selected students who wish to continue the program can attend a Saturday program through the 2010-2011 school year, building upon the framework established during the summer months. Finally, students have the option to return in summer 2011 and complete their studies.
- Reside and attend school in DC
- Have a “B” average or higher in all core subjects
- Will be entering 9th, 10th, or 11th grades in Fall of 2010
- At least 14 years of age as of June 1, 2010,
- be a US citizen or possess proof of permanent residency
