Kwame Voted 2010 Chair of Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments

Kwame Commits to address economic prosperity and vocational education

We GrowWASHINGTON – Today, At-Large Councilmember Kwame R. Brown was elected chair of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) after serving this year as Vice-Chairman.  Councilmember Brown committed to addressing regional priorities including economic prosperity, unemployment and comprehensive vocational education.

“Chairwoman Penelope Gross has been a model for leadership in the region,” said Councilmember Brown.  “I want to thank her and the Council for honoring me with the chairmanship.  I will work to strengthen our regional bonds and help create programs and opportunities that improve the quality of life for residents of the metropolitan region.”

Earlier this year, Chairwoman Gross and Councilmember Brown spearheaded The Workforce Competitiveness Taskforce.  The taskforce is responsible for generating new policies for improved regional workforce enhancement and job creation.  The taskforce is charged with:
  • Kwame shakes hands with DC workersUnderstanding and aligning regional and local economic development goals and strategies;
  • Addressing education and training infrastructure;
  • Strengthening and improving workforce system coordination and communication; and
  • Creating opportunity out of crisis.
