10,000 Book Bag Giveaway
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, for the second consecutive year, The Life Center Church, in partnership with At-Large Councilmember Kwame R. Brown, hosted Life Day: 10,000 Book Bag Giveaway at The Life Center Church in Camp Springs, Md. and Ambulatory Care Center at DC General Health Campus in Washington, DC. Thousands of students, parents, grandparents, teachers and friends received book bags to help kick off the start of a new school year.
“I want to thank Life Center Church, Jay Cameron, the wonderful volunteers, and sponsors for making this happen,” said Councilmember Brown. “Now, parents can rest at ease knowing that their children will have the school supplies they need to start the school year right. During these tough times, it’s even more important than ever to give each other a hand.”
“This event exceeded our expectations,” said Jay Cameron, event organizer. “Thank you to Councilman Brown, the dedicated volunteers and donors that made it all possible. We look forward to continuing to build this education initiative for years to come.”
Nearly 5,000 book bags were distributed at the Washington, DC location in less than three hours. The location opened its doors early because of long lines, hot weather and excited students. Next year, Councilmember Brown hopes to make it the 20,000 book bag giveaway to help more families in need.
